Transmythic Perytron

I initially wasn't going to kitbash anything out of the spare Airhammer I'd picked up, because the plastic felt kinda cheesy in places. But I started fiddling around with the toy and hacked off the "hammer" part of the shark's head, thinking maybe I'd make a Thunderbird out of it. Then inspiration hit. A peryton, a mythical creature with the body of a hawk, the head of a stag, and the shadow of a man (or, alternately, a member of the Conclave of Super-Villains). All I really needed was to get a decent set of antlers, or perhaps an entire head. I eventually found a cheap plastic deer of the right size at a dollar store.

First, I had to remove parts I didn't want. I cut off the shark head sides and filed down the remaining part. Then I found I could remove the dorsal fin by simply unscrewing it and breaking the weak glue seal on it. Finally, I hacked off the shark tail on the robot's left hand and filed that down to a stump.

Now to build back up. Hollowing out the stag's head, I glued it over the former shark head and filled in the gaps with putty, adding a bit of fur texture along the back to cover the sharkskin bits. I fashioned a big ol' fist for his left arm out of a Lego piece, some putty and the shark fin (which became a wrist blade). Then I made a tail which could fit into that fist using assorted bits of plastic and some putty, turning the tail into a gun as well.

Finally, I painted the figure in flat earth brown and dark grey with black and copper accents, leaving the light grey bits mostly alone. I painted the inside of the mouth/claw thing red, not that you can see that, and added a few other red accents. Finally, I coated almost the entire thing with nail polish topcoat, getting a bit woozy from the fumes in the process. Full poseability and transformability remain.

Despite a beast mode that would seem to fit with the Maximals, Perytron's innate evil tendencies made him a natural for Megatron's side, as the datatrax on the mythical peryton infected his core personality. A cruel and carnivorous beast, Peryton sometimes seeks out the protohumans and devours them for pleasure. A master of shadowcasting, his own shadow is always that of a modern human, regardless of what mode he is in. He can surround a foe in darkness, or confuse many enemies with shifting shadows, especially at night. In both modes, he can use powerful jaws and terrible talons to rip into his prey, but in robot mode he is even worse. His powerful left hand can rip through stone, its cutting blade can fell an elephant in one stroke, and the double-barrelled freon blaster he carries can send a chill through any opponent.
