As you can see from the image at the left, the X-Men 2099 figure "Meanstreak" that I used as a basis for Dynamo has a few elements that preclude use of the simple blue and white bodysuit. For one, he has red areas at joints, and painting over joints is bad. For another, he has extra built up areas at his wrists and boots that would be prohibitive to carve off, and since I already had to change the design to fit the new color, I decided to leave on most of the extra bits as well.
After I was done taking pieces off, it was time to build pieces up. First I smoothed out Meanstreak's chest, which was too highly chiseled to paint his costume pattern on. Then I used more structural paint to build up hair on the back of Meanstreak's head, since the original figure had a partial mask with open face and hair sticking out the top. I reduced that to a headband and added sideburns as well as blue highlights to the hair.
For a final touch, I decided to give Dynamo the "blazing eyes" schtick that's
popular with energy-based superheroes these days. It also covered up the
truly horrible molding on Meanstreak's eyes.
