Hooligan as Original Jetfire

In repainting Hooligan, I used Pactra acrylic enamel (which is what I've used on most of my repaints). It took about 4 coats of white to totally cover the orange color of the original toy, but only two of red and one of black.

The thruster units on the back and the forearm guard on the left arm were built from plastic conduit obtained from a local hobby shop (1/2 inch by 1/4 inch stock). I decided not to build the big forearm units for symmetry reasons, although if I had really wanted to, I could have bought a spare Space Case and unscrewed his launcher to give Hooligan a right hand. I also used a pair of 1x1 conical Lego pieces as exhaust nozzles on the boosters.

The length of the boosters prevented me from leaving the rudder parts of the tail in their normal positions, so I glued them in at the proper right angle of the F-14 (remember, Hooligan has an F-22 body and F-111 wings).

You'll notice that the color scheme is not exactly that of the original Jetfire. This is partly due to differences in the type of plane (some F-14 elements were simply not present) but mainly due to the differences in robot form and transformation. While joints were left as untouched as possible, this toy is no longer transformable because of the reworked tail section. In addition, the thruster pack makes the toy unbalanced, so it will no longer stand upright without support. I'm considering gluing it into a diorama, which will remove this concern.

Thruster Design

Here's some instructions on how to build the thrusters I made for Jetfire's back. You'll need two of them, of course. Lack of a fully-equipped G1 Jetfire to look at has prevented me from designing further backpack stuff for him.

NEW! Super Valkyrie Models as Jetfire

On the left is a Superdeformed Super Valkyrie Heavy Weapon model painted as Jetfire. The center is the normal version of the same model painted as Jetfire, although you'll note the face is wrong. Finally we have the Superdeformed "gerwalk" mode of the SVHW model painted as Jetfire and held together with more glue than a snap-together model really should have (I broke some pegs, and some parts didn't snap on correctly).
