Structurally, there wasn't a whole lot I had to do. Using some two-stage epoxy putty, I molded a snake's body and head onto Bantor's tail, adding a piece of wire to act as the tongue. Then I carved down his left hind foot and used putty to mold cloven hooves onto both hind feet. Finally, I made curved ram's horns for the head.
I wanted to be able to transform this fairly freely, so I left most of the dark brown parts alone, especially the ones that fold up to form the robot's hips. To get the fur effect, I used a brown wash (a bit of brown paint poured into some water) over all the furry parts. Then I coated every painted part with a layer or clear-coat nail polish to give it some durability. The paints I used were: Pactra (black, red, grey, brown), Citadel Miniatures paint (green for eyes, metallic colors) and some paints I bought at Wal-Mart in the craft section (tawny yellow, ivory).
One last physical modification I had to do after painting was carve out the peg holes so that the pegs could fit in more easily, especially since some paint had gotten on various pegs.
As part of a desperate deal to save a group of damaged protoforms, the Maximals obtained datatrax and genescans from Megatron and used them to adapt the protoforms to life on prehistoric Earth. But the datatrax weren't always complete, and while this Maximal gained the form of the mythical Chimaera, he took the name of that monster's killer, Bellerophon. Additionally, a second, heavily damaged protoform nearby was attached to Bellerotron during the early phases of the rescue operation, in an attempt to keep it alive. The two sparks ended up mingling, resulting on a combined lifeform. The second Maximal, whose consciousness resides in the snake-head tail of the chimaera, is known as Hydrus. When combined in chimaera mode, Bellerotron and Hydrus form a formidable combatant, despite their small stature. Able to breathe flames from either end, possessing lion's claws and a goat's kick, Bellerotron doesn't need to Maximize to be a terror on the battlefield. When they do transform, Hydrus is independently mobile but loses his flaming breath when separated from Bellertron's internal furnace. In his hands, though, Hydrus is an intelligent weapon, spitting fire and kicking past an opponent's defenses. Not that Bellerotron is helpless on his own, with his battering ram fist and ability to shoot fire along his right arm. Bellerotron is the more aggressive of the pair, preferring to leap into a fight. Hydrus is more contemplating, and better suited to the scouting missions the pair are often assigned to. Bellerotron sometimes complains about Hydrus being a "back seat driver."
