BACK TO DAVE'S KITBASHES
These are figures that I either simply painted in Transformers color schemes,
or rebuilt to better resemble Transformers in some way.
Except where noted, Autobots are made from Black Powder Rebels.
- Khamsin Freelancers:
- Cliffjumper: A Transformers character
created from a Tough Freelancer. I used putty and plastic tube sections for
the wheels. To get the horns, I drilled holes in the helmet and inserted
short bits of copper wire.
- Channel: One of my Transforemrs MUSH
characters (from The Lost Years MUSH). I used a Dremel to square off several
parts, added "horns" and chest screen with styrene sheet, and filled in some
gaps with Squadron putty. Click
here for a picture of a scratch-built Channel I did a while back. It's
about twice as tall as the Freelancer. His altmode is an info center kiosk,
the grey bits on his forearms are speakers.
- Bumblebee: Another Transformer made from a
Weak Freelancer. Same basic construction as Cliffjumper.
- Khamsin Fusers:
- Bluestreak: Built from a Standard Fuser,
the main modifications are the head crest, the door/wings, and the wheels.
- Khamsin Gunslingers:
Hot Rod: Built from a Tough Gunslinger, this was
originally envisioned as a simple modification for teaching someone to
kitbash Mage Knight figures, but I eventually gave up on the tutorial aspect
and re-complicated the design. I decided to go with the toy color scheme
rather than the purple and white comics version. The pipes are bits of thin
plastic rod glued to thin plastic strips to make units that could easily be
glued onto flattened bits of the body.
- Leech Medics:
- Minerva: From Masterforce, Minerva
(incorrectly transliterated as Minelba on the package) is a medic type, so
using a Leech Medic seemed appropriate, despite the Leech's lack of a ranged
- Amazon Blademistresses:
- Arcee: Autobot token female from the Transformers
movie and later seasons of the show. I made the backpack bits and the gun
from pieces of a plastic slat. I used Squadron putty to build up the helmet
(after cutting off the ponytail) and chest armor. Couldn't remove the flap
of cloth in the front, but I did manage to mold some of the helmet details.
I stripped all the original paint before starting the physical mods.
- Moonracer, Firestar and Chromia: Three of the
Autobot femmes from the Search for Alpha Trion. Used putty to help shape
them, and a lot of cutting and drilling. Drilled a hole in my thumb while
- Steam Golems:
- Optimus Prime: A Tough Steam Golem rebuilt
into the Transformer Autobot leader Optimus Prime. I used the head and
shoulders of Hammer, one of the combiner Micromasters, for Optimus's head. A
piece of styrene plastic forms the chest, with Milliput epoxy putty filling
in the cracks and gaps. The gun was enhanced with putty and a piece of high
- Non-Black Powder Rebels Autobots:
- Beta: Beta, a freedom fighter from the distant
past, seen in "Forever Is A Long Time Coming" (third season Transformers),
made from a Weak Noble Archer (Knights Immortal). The crossbow was left over
from my Cybersquad Beta Troll Artillerists. I carved the Archer's hair down
to a helmet shape, then stuck a thin bit of plastic in as the helmet crest.
- Omega Supreme: Built from a Blade Golem with
lots of styrene bits for modification. The left arm is totally scratchbuilt,
and the "mouthguard" is a piece of 16 gauge copper wire.
- The Dinobots
More of a joke than a serious army, I was inspired by some Actionmasters I
had sitting around. Straight repaints of Black Powder, Atlanteans and one
Unless otherwise noted, these are Atlantean Guild.
The whole Guild/Rebels conflict fits well with the Decepticon/Autobot
struggle. Played an army of Venom, Megatron, Shockwave, Soundwave, Frenzy,
Rumble and Devastator in a "no uniques, nothing over 40 points" tournament,
took third place out of eight.
- Amotep Incinerators:
- Venom: Deluxe Insecticon. I removed the
Incinerator's backpack, Dremeled down the armor into flatter planes, added
wings with sheet plastic, the bug eyes and gun from plastic rods, and a wire
inserted into a hole atop the figure's head for the "stinger."
- Altem Guardsmen:
- Megatron and Shockwave: Extensive reshaping
and additions for these two. Megatron's cannon is made from styrene tubing,
while Shockwave's gunhand is the end of a Lego antenna/control stick piece.
Megatron is a Tough unit, Shockwave is Standard.
- Soundwave: More styrene tubing and sheets
and carving and stuff. A Standard unit.
- Brass Golems:
- Frenzy and Rumble: Or vice versa. One is a
Tough unit, the other Standard. I decided not to do major reshaping on these
two, especially since adding the piledrivers might give the mistaken
impression that these guys had the Shockwave attack (no relation). I did pop
off an arm on each and reposition it, though, so they could raise their fists
- Blade Golems:
- Devastator: A Standard unit with its
forearms replaced by forearms from a Brass Golem. The Brass Golem got the
buzzsaw for its trouble, and is pictured with Devastator.
- Scorpem Gunners:
- Scorponok/Lord Zarak: My first Lancers
figure Transformer, this is a Weak Scorpem Gunner because I had three of
them. I replaced the rear mounted buzzsaw with a gun from my bag of GIJoe
weapons, and cut off the top jaw blade to insert a head and mouthparts I
built. I reshaped the rider a lot to make Zarak (picture of Lord Zarak
included for comparison). Warning, this is a rather big image.
- Non-Atlantean Decepticons:
- Magic: A fan character that I've done an action figure of. Cut off the bottom half of the bow and
made the rest into a sword. Made from a Weak Noble Archer (Knights
